Pumpkin Carving?
Halloween is swiftly approaching, and my boyfriend and I are trying to decide what variety of jack o'lantern to carve this year.

Has anyone ever seen any Doctor Who themed pumpkin carving patterns? I've seen the robotic Dalek pumpkin instructions, but that's a bit too involved for something that's going to go all mushy on me.

I was thinking it would be neat to carve the shape of a Dalek, or the TARDIS, but I'm not any good at designing and drawing things like that.

Damn! I had that bookmarked for this year! Maybe a comment on the thread to get them to reupload them? :)

Maybe if you can find a clear enough picture, you can draw over the outlines with a strong black marker. Once you have good, strong lines, I'd use the poked-hole method, rather than actually cutting out the shapes. If you poke the holes through the light should shine through, especially if you choose a thinner-shelled variety of pumpkin.

Maybe check the 'stencils' tag, and then transfer those designs to the pumpkin with a marker before carving? There is an Ood and a Cyberman that would work well, I think.

I also converted a Dalek to black and white outline for someone for a cross-stitch project. Let me see if I can find it.

Here's the Dalek I did -- probably would still be too detailed for a pumpkin.

There's a simpler, more graphic design here: http://www.npforums.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=22

I've seen a TARDIS in a similar style somewhere, too. No doubt another crafty_tardis member will know where to find it.

Oh, and there's even a 'pumpkins' tag, with lots of great ideas in it.

Try here, for example. With links to templates: http://community.livejournal.com/crafty_tardis/41136.html#cutid1

I'll stop spamming you now. :)

Don't stop spamming me! You are giving me awesome ideas! If you have more, keep 'em coming.

Cool! Thank you!

Awesome!

I think an ood o'lantern would be neat, but I don't know if I have the talent to carve something that detailed.

When I first started reading this I totally thought it would deteriorate into a bad "Captain Jack"-O-Lantern Pun.

HAHAH! My boyfriend totally wants to do one of those. Made that very same joke last night, in fact.

I made a TARDIS pumpkin a couple years back -- the pattern is here. (It's a bit of work, but you might be able to adapt it for simpler carving.)

I did a Dalek pumpkin in 2006. I've got a pic here: http://community.livejournal.com/pumpkincarving/70765.html
(second one down.)

I know I saw someone do a Dalek out of a striped pumpkin and a gourd...not sure where that pic came from though.

Some Pumpkins
I have a friend who has done some Doctor Who pumpkins over the years. If you like one of them enough, I'm sure I could get her to post the pattern.
