I watched the Children in Need special yesterday.

Time Crash, that is.

So, I give to you...

Celery! Sorry about the hugeness of the pic. Taken with my phone, you know.

Pattern tiem!

Tension is unimportant, knitted in really cheap 8-ply with 4.5mm needles. (Although, I suggest you use slightly smaller needles, because the stuffing shows through.)

Knitted in one piece.

Cast on 9 stitches.
1. k.
2. p.
Do 8 more rows in st st.
11. k2, k2 together, k1, slip 1, k1, pass slipped stitch over, k2.
12. p.

21. k1, k2 together, k1, s1, k1, pass lipped stitch over, k1.
22. p.

31. k2 together, k1, s1, pass slipped stitch over.
32. p.
33. inc in each stitch (6 stitches).
34. p.
35. inc in each stitch (12 stitches).

37. inc in each stitch (24 stitches).
38. p.
39. k1, turn.
40. p back.
41. k2, turn.
42. p back.
43. k3, turn.
44. p back.
45. Cast off 3.
Repeat last seven rows until all the frimbly bits are casted off.

Attach brooch back.

I liked how the frimbly bits turned out.

You know, I used to think celery was absolutely horrible and useless, but now I realise that it's a really good fashion accessory.

Very nifty, and extra points for posting the pattern! :)

While you were making this, did you say "look at me, I'm knitting a vegetable!" at least once? XD

Nicely done.

Going to make this as part of a 5 themed scarf I'm making. Can't wait to try this. (I'm just learning to knit. So, should be interesting.)

Also, I love the phrase "frimbly bits"!

First of all, how did I not see this pattern before? It's fantastic!

I didn't have any trouble with the pattern until 45—how do I cast off all three stitches each time? I tried casting off the third stitch with the first one of the next three, but this connected all the leaves and they were no longer frimbly.

I also tried cutting the yarn so I could bring the tail through the third stitch & then use a new piece for the next leaf. This doesn't look right, either, though.

How do I cast off so things still look frimbly?

[info]michelf

You don't have to cut anything.

The frimbly look comes from the "short rows" you make when you turn the work, then you cast off the last row on a leaf and move on to making the short rows for the next leaf...

Does that makes sense?

I had a desperately hard time with the frimbles, but I had never done short rows, increases, decreases, or purling back before. So the fact that I could do it at all is a bit of a wonder! (This is it if you want to see.)

When you say "purl back" did you mean "purl through the back loop"? That's what I did, but your frimbly bits seem so much more frimbly than mine. I'm deinitely going to make more, because it was fun and awesome, but would love my future frimbly bits to look frimblier if I can make them so.

Frimbly bits! Mine here!

I had to improvise because I'm still not sure about how to cast off the little bits, one by one, but I got everything else done! Thanks for sharing!

Mostly I love your word "frimbly"! Brilliant little pattern; thank you. My celery is knitted of dishcloth cotton and will be stuffed with catnip for hours of feline and human entertainment.
