Beware the Weeping Angels
Y'all might have noticed that your friendly community moderator has been slacking a bit lately. No updates. No organizing. What the heck was she doing that kept her so busy elsewhere?!

This.

Absolutely MASSIVE amounts of pictures under the cut, sorryCollapse )

This is the 'making-of' post - if you want to read the 'in-costume' post, it's over here on dw_cosplay.

Flipping heck. I came across this totally randomly and my jaw has just been hanging off its hinge since the first sentence. I assumed it was a statue, and when I realised it was a costume, I thought "where can I buy me one of those?!" When I then cottoned on to the fact that you'd *made* it, I thought "I need to worship this woman!" Truly, truly astonishing. I always considered myself quite good at coming up with costumes but I pale into insignificance next to this. Astonishing. You have *serious* talent here - I hope that your job involves making clothes / costumes to a considerable extent?!?

I followed a couple of links (from an inquiry about your Steampunk fairy to your dw cosplay post to this wonderful how-to) and I'm in total awe of your ingenuity and imagination. I heard about your costume while I was in one line or another at D*C but didn't see your costume until the Saturday night at the Marriott. I didn't realize you were also the steampunk fairy, but I loved that too. It was my first D*C and didn't do a costume but I think I'll try some variation of steampunk for next year. Anyway, since you can't have too many shots of your fantastic Blink Angel

THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR THIS. My daughter desperately wanted to be a weeping angel from Doctor Who this Halloween... and while I make her costumes every year, I thought this one might be too daunting. But your step by step analysis here has been a HUGE help, and I can't thank you enough. Excellent work, and I'm grateful that you shared it.

Wonderful! I'm so glad it helped you, and I would love to see pictures when you are done. :)

WOW!!!!! I just found this by googling "weeping angel costume" since I'd like to be one for Halloween. I figured if I had thought of it, someone had done it, and it would be on the internet. That's seriously the most impressive costume I've ever seen - your artistry and attention to detail is AMAZING! I'm also feeling guilty about the fact that you probably spent more time on this costume that I will spend on my thesis. :) I've sent a link to this page to all my Doctor Who fan friends, too. Thanks!

hopefully you can respond, but I have a question.

When you draped the fabric to make all of those free folds, how did you keep the area around the neck so smooth...it's not a seperate peice, right? I am an amateur sewer...a prom dress, out of yellow fabric. A renaissance costume at halloween time...But if you could Email me...ilovebuhnahnuhs@hotmail.com i would greatly appreciate it!

My sister and I want to go to a local con as Weeping Angels, what you posted here is a helpful tutorial to your amazing costume.

If I promise to give you all the credit, can my sister and I use this as a tutorial for our own costume?
Plleeeaasssee??

Certainly you can use the techniques I shared! I hope you can improve on the areas that need improvement, as well. :) Good luck, and I'd love to see them when you're done!
